Correct. I was trying to be simplistic and lay some expectations on what “should” based on what most often is. See the IQ example highlight and response. It’s hard to balance writing for audiences with different levels of expertise. But, yes, for grad students in biostatistics, I begin by having them understand exploratory data analysis, that then dictates how their statistical analysis will be done. And then there are the diagnostics of that analysis. Complicated! :-)
