I understand your level of apprehension, and many of us are feeling it. However, there is hope. In 1920, a crazy presidential election in the US took place, with no less than six candidates. The country had just finished being ravaged by a pandemic and a World War. The book American Midnight: The Great War, a Violent Peace, and Democracy's Forgotten Crisis details a lot of what happened between 1918 and 1922, and there are many parallels to what is happening now. Of course, we know a great depression happened, then a horrible second world war. But my point is that the institutions held. Easier said than done, right? Too many people are going to get hurt if Democracy is to survive.
