“Superman & Lois” Ends How All Good Superman Stories Should… With Lots of Hope and Love
Not all stories on the screen or in print about the Big Blue Boy Scout end in such a satisfying way.
The latest television adaptation of the Superman mythos ended last night with a satisfying final episode. Unlike previous adaptations of Superman, where we are left wondering — and hoping for — what’s next, the show runners of Superman & Lois decided to end the story The Man of Steel the same way our own personal stories will end. But they added something special.

Previous iterations of the story of Superman have ended with ellipses. That is, we don’t know what happens next, but we are left to believe there are more adventures ahead. Smallville hinted at Clark Kent (as Superman) only beginning his adventures, even after ten years of freak-of-the-week episodes with complicated multi-season story arcs. The 1990s show, Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, also left us wondering what would become of the famous couple once they became parents.
