We teach about these maps to public health students with a warning... People vote (or get sick, or get vaccinated), not land. Much of that red is scarcely populated. Sure, Montana and friends can split off, but they'll be surrounded on all sides by a lot of people who don't like them, including in Canada. And they'll have a bastion in Salt Lake to deal with. And North Dakota? You could move all of El Paso to North Dakota and almost double the population.
