Yes! This is something I talk to my biostats students about. Use Student's t, understand the assumptions that must be met when you're doing an analysis. And, for the love of Pete, make sure you know how your code works in the background. (The other instance is wanting to do Chi Square analyses without Monte Carlo simulation versus Fischer's Exact.)
